The Rider Way - Pt. 1

Yes, it's the title of the Blog but I believe it's also a way of life.  I believe that what we do after the final classroom bell rings in our activity and athletic programs is a vitally important next part of the day.  We're teaching and reinforcing skills like teamwork, cooperation, trust, and dealing with adversity to name just a few.  I also believe that we need to be very intentional about how we go about teaching character and that's why we developed and will continue to look for ways to teach concepts within what we call "The Rider Way".

These concepts are currently being taught through our student leadership program in cooperation with the Robert D. and Billie Ray Institute and Drake University.  Robert D. Ray is the former Governor of the state of Iowa and is also a Roosevelt graduate.  This blog will be the first of a five part series with a few details about each tenant of The Rider Way.  We've written each one with a competition and personal goal as we strive to live by The Rider Way.

The Rider Way

                              Respect All, Fear None
                               Integrity Above All Else
                              Dream and Believe
                              Excellence Is Pursued
Resilience - Control What You Can Control

·         Respect All, Fear None
Competition
No matter who we play or what we do it’s really not about them.  It’s about preparing the very best that we can, trusting our preparation, and then living with the result.  We can never let the competition predetermine the effort and attitude we will approach a contest with.
Personal
Live by the Golden Rule.  Treat others as you want to be treated.  Every person is worthy of the opportunity to be treated with respect.  Even if a person treats us in a way that is disrespectful the goal will be to not strike back, but continue to act professionally and not take the disrespect personally.

Thanks for sharing some time with me.
